About GMSI
The Somali Union Council in Italy (GMSI) was established to coordinate Somali associations and communities across Italy and present their activities under one shared platform, while respecting each association’s local circumstances and autonomy.
GMSI works to unite and coordinate Somali associations across Italy while supporting Somali migrants, asylum seekers, refugees, families, youth, and Somali communities without distinction. We serve as the bridge between the Somali diaspora and Italian institutions, international organizations, and the homeland.
To support, unite, and represent Somali communities in Italy through humanitarian assistance, cultural preservation, community orientation, legal guidance, and cooperation with local and international institutions.
To build a self-sustainable Somali community in Italy that is integrated with respect for the host country while preserving Islamic faith, Somali culture, national pride, and respect for others.

Migration Support
Many Somali migrants arriving in Italy face serious challenges: lack of information, language barriers, legal documentation issues, unemployment, and the risk of exploitation.
GMSI aims to provide guidance, trusted information, and community-based support. We believe that no Somali arriving in Italy should face these challenges alone. Through our network of associations, volunteers, and institutional partners, we create pathways to safety, dignity, and integration.
